It is easy to get started with Loom. All you need is a computer with a webcam and you are good to go. Simply download the software, launch it, and start recording. When you are done, you can save or download your video, share a link to your video, or even publish it directly to YouTube or Vimeo.
How Can Loom Be Used to Improve Workflow?
1. Creating Loom videos is an awesome way to save on meetings. Sometimes things fit in that category between “too small for a meeting” and “too big for an email.” In those cases, Loom is a great way to get your message across, talk it through, show your screen, and then send it out so your team members can view it on their own time, and you don’t have to interrupt their normal working time.
2. Loom is also a great way for you to share clear instructions with your team and with contractors. As you are walking through a new process, you can do the process on the computer and talk through why you are doing what you are doing and how you are doing it. You can then take those videos and embed the actual Loom video into your Standard Operating Procedures so you can delegate more easily.
3. If you are rolling out a new software to your team, Loom is an essential tool for creating training videos on how you are going to be using that particular software. I recommend creating short videos that are no longer than five minutes per video, to walk through how to do specific things.
4. A final way that I love to use Loom, is to provide employee feedback. When you are doing your quality assurance checks and you notice some problems or things that they can adjust, it is really simple to record a quick Loom video to walk them through what changes you are requesting and then email it to them or send it to them through Slack.
Tips for Creating Loom Videos
I recommend creating short videos. They should be no longer than 3-5 minutes. If you have a longer topic or a topic that includes multiple steps, record a short series of videos. When you create shorter videos breaking down the information you are sharing, your videos can be used as a quick reference tool later. Your team can always go back just to the parts that they need to revisit whenever they have questions.
